STANDARD Q./mais: preservation of forage.
Quality Silage
To ensure good quality silage, it is essential to obtain a low pH and ensure the absence of air in the material to be ensiled within the shortest possible time.
This is the only way to prevent bacterial fermentation, mould growth and the resulting loss of dry matter
F.I.S. can help you improve the preservation of your corn silage.
For ensiling, F.I.S. recommends the use of Standard Q./mais, a liquid product containing organic acids that are very active even at low doses. Due to their volatility, the components of Standard Q./mais spread quickly in the treated material. The low pH obtained immediately ensures optimal preservation of the silage.
Treatment with Standard Q./mais is particularly suitable for corn silage or when the moisture content of the forage to be ensiled is lower than 50%. At this moisture content, the addition of lactic acid is ineffective since the bacteria need much higher moisture levels (85/90%) to grow.
When the harvest is delayed and the material to be ensiled is too dry, it is common practice to add water. In this case, the use of Standard Q./mais diluted in water is essential to prevent the growth of bacteria and moulds that would otherwise give rise to undesired fermentation.
Opening of the silo - A critical point which is often overlooked. When a silo is opened, the silage is exposed to air, resulting in the growth of harmful micro-organisms, post-fermentation and heating. The best way to prevent these problems is treatment with Standard Q./mais during silo preparation.
Standard Q./mais has been used on farms for 20 years. It successfully ensures silage stability over time (i.e. cold upon de-siling, without mould or colour changes) and preserves the silage's nutritional value.
Standard Q./mais is safe: its components do not produce toxic residues. Standard Q./mais is a liquid premix that is easy to apply. A metering pump (STANDARD Q./Spray) distributes the product safely and evenly.
